Very cold air from Russia reached the Lower Silesian Voivodeship on Sunday. On the night from Sunday to Monday, thermometers in Bolesławiec showed more than 20º below zero. During the day, the mercury fell to minus 16º. This night, the thermometer stopped at minus 17 degrees. The Lower Silesian Voivode appealed to local governments to guarantee assistance to everyone in need and to increase the number of beds in shelters and care homes.

The weather situation in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship is being continuously monitored by the Crisis Management Centre. The number provides information about accommodation facilities in the voivodeship, soup kitchens, medical assistance points and social welfare institutions. The number 0800 166 079 can be called from both landlines and public payphones. Currently, 25 shelters operate in Lower Silesia, offering 1,510 places, as well as 19 night shelters with 447 places. In addition, 37 free soup kitchens in the voivodeship serve approximately 9,500 meals every day.
