Last Friday, September 5, a meeting was held at the Town Hall between the Municipal Senior Citizens’ Council, established this year by a resolution of the Municipal Council, and the Legnica Senior Citizens’ Council (an advisory and consultative body to the city mayor). The meeting was attended by Mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski and his deputies: Dorota Purgal and Jadwiga Zienkiewicz.
“I am pleased that both councils are working together to build a civil society,” the mayor said. “You are one of the important structures operating within the municipality. I am counting on comprehensive cooperation with you and on joint initiatives.”
Jadwiga Zienkiewicz discussed the implementation of the first edition of the Legnica Civic Budget, as well as its second edition, which was being carried out at the same time. The participants also discussed seniors’ needs relating to healthcare, social assistance and direct participation in the life of the city.
Danuta Przechera, chairwoman of the Municipal Senior Citizens’ Council, Danuta Przechera stressed that the council would take part in organizing many city events, including Independence Day celebrations. She announced cooperation with the Municipal Youth Council. The Municipal Senior Citizens’ Council’s work plan for 2014–2015 was also adopted. In the social sphere, it provides, among other things, for preventing loneliness and the social exclusion of older people. Building a positive social image and authority for the older generation, as well as strengthening intergenerational bonds and solidarity, is important. The program announces close cooperation with Legnica’s local government, as well as the promotion of artistic activities among senior citizens.
