Legnica is a beautiful city with a rich and fascinating history. Before World War II, it operated under the German name Liegnitz. In December 2013, it had 101,992 inhabitants. The largest number of inhabitants was recorded in 1998—109,335 people.
From 1 June 1975 to 31 December 1998, the city was the capital of Legnica Voivodeship; today, it is a city with county rights and the seat of the Legnica curia. Preserved photographs and postcards show us what it looked like in the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.
