The value of the project, financed in 85 percent by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism, amounts to PLN 2 million. Besides Legnica, school youth hostels from Szczecin (the project host), Krakow, Konin, Łódź, Rajcza-Nickulina, Osieczna and Pobierowo are participating. The project is scheduled to run from September this year until December 2015.
“The project programme,” says Jolanta Jucewicz, head of the Legnica hostel, “includes, among other things, the organisation of nationwide environmental workshops called ‘Green Hostels’, training sessions for teachers entitled ‘Environmental education in the field of biodiversity and Natura 2000 area protection’, courses for hostel directors on extracurricular environmental education, as well as many interesting competitions. The project’s participants will include children, young people and adults, such as teachers, local-government employees and members of non-governmental organisations. We expect approximately 40,000 people to participate in the entire project.”
Environmental workshops called “Green Hostels” will begin at the School Youth Hostel in Legnica as early as September and October. Children and young people from Szczecin and Rajcza-Nickulina will take part. Meanwhile, young people from Legnica will travel in September and October to similar workshops in Pobierowo, Szczecin and Rajcza-Nickulina.
The “Biodiversity Centres and Shelters” programme, implemented by the School Youth Hostel in Legnica, will also promote the city and the natural attractions of our region.
