The next stage of the reconstruction of Moniuszki Street, namely asphalt milling, began on Tuesday (12 August). Several dozen tonnes of this material will be sent for recycling. As Andrzej Szymkowiak, director of the Municipal Roads Authority, reports, it will be used to reinforce the last two unpaved roads in Stare Piekary. Previously, other roads in this area, such as Pawicka Street, were improved in this way, using asphalt removed during the reconstruction of Witelona Street and Piłsudskiego Avenue. The material recovered by road workers is excellent for such purposes. Laying it on a road does not require complicated procedures. It is distributed and compacted by machine. The new surface created in this way successfully serves residents.
It is worth recalling that construction work on Moniuszki Street began on 1 August this year. At that time, the carriageway was closed on the section from the intersection with Zesłańców Sybiru Street to the entrance to the shopping centre. At this stage, the main work involved replacing kerbs and edge strips. Further work required the entire carriageway on the side of the Legnica Housing Cooperative to be closed. After the old asphalt was milled, the road base was replaced. The final stage is the installation of a new asphalt wearing course.
The reconstruction of Moniuszki Street concerns the section from the intersection with Piłsudskiego Avenue and II Armii Wojska Polskiego Street to the intersection with Wrocławska Street. The work includes, among other things, reconstructing the carriageway surface, which will be made of asphalt concrete; replacing kerbs; reconstructing pavements, which will be made of concrete paving blocks, while retaining the cycle path; reconstructing the bus bay, which will be made of concrete; reconstructing street inlets together with service connections; regulating technical infrastructure facilities in the carriageways and pavements; repairing sewer manholes; constructing a section of cable ducting for the LEGMAN telecommunications network and the Integrated Traffic and Public Transport Management System; and developing green areas.
The investment will cost approximately PLN 2.2 million.
