This article is devoted to a street interview and information on the subject “Leisure Time: How Do the Residents of Bolesławiec Spend It?”
The social survey was conducted using a random sampling method, meaning that it included randomly encountered pedestrians from Bolesławiec in various parts of the city, namely the Market Square, 10 Marca, Jana Pawła II, Waryński Park and the Kwiatowe housing estate. To clarify the results obtained and remove mental and cultural barriers, I decided to group the statements.
13–17 years
lower- and upper-secondary school students
The answers were practically unanimous: “I sit at the computer and play games.” A few said, “I go out for a beer with my buddies and show off around town.”
18–30 years
young adults
Why “young adults”? This is an age range in which young people are still discovering the taste of life. The most common answers I encountered were having no free time at all (only work), social gatherings and parties at clubs.
31–60 years
adults
The most common answer I heard was: “I don’t have time.” Fewer of those who answered this question focused on household chores than on how they spend their free time.
61 and over
older people
This group consists of people receiving disability or retirement pensions, or rapidly approaching retirement. The answer was again unanimous: watching television and doing household chores. I also met people who answered: “I tend and cultivate my allotment garden,” and “I go to church and pray.”
Psychopedagogical observations
Civilizational progress and the rush of everyday life largely deprive us of the desire to pursue active ways of spending time, activities and passions. Why? We work and forget that life is not only about rushing. Life is everything around us: emotions, experiences, our surroundings, family, home, dreams, goals and OUR PASSIONS.
Having no personal activity causes us to lose ourselves in monotony, which often leads to depressive states: boredom with life and loss of goals.
Advice for readers: if you lack a passion, find one. Look for inspiration. This will certainly make you healthier and improve your well-being.
