At the beginning of July, we reported that one of the cygnets had disappeared. It turned out that the little one had been poisoned by something. It was taken to a vet and given a very strong antibiotic. The illness passed, and after two days (on Saturday, July 5), the young swan could return to the pond. Except that... the father began driving it away and did not accept it back.

The cygnet stayed for a while in a temporary animal shelter. However, when it became clear that there was no chance of the family accepting it again, the young bird was taken to the newly opened mini-zoo in Lubin, where—as Grażyna Strzyżewska from the Municipal Housing Management Facility informed us—the swan has settled in well.

We repeat our appeal not to feed the swans; they have enough food. Below are photographs from when the family was complete:

Let us recall: in mid-April, we reported that at the pond on Bankowa Street in Bolesławiec, a female swan was incubating eggs. Her mate was with her. Unfortunately, the pair chose a spot almost right next to the park path, which attracted considerable interest from passers-by, especially children attending nearby schools. The excessive interest was not good for the female swan, so city officials asked people not to approach the temporary fence so as not to disturb the swans. The female swan eventually hatched four cygnets.

Swans have become a permanent part of the landscape in this part of the city. In fact, for years—with short breaks, as they are migratory birds—they have been an inseparable element of Bolesławiec's parks. This pair arrived here two years ago, and it appears to have settled into our city.
