BOK-MCC invites on Monday, June 23, at 7:00 p.m. to the Orzeł Cultural Integration Centre for the lecture “Human Trafficking. Is It Possible?”. Earlier, at 10:00 a.m. and noon, young people from schools in Bolesławiec will attend the lecture.
The meetings will be led by Sister Anna Bałchan of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate, who has been helping people involved in prostitution since 1999. For the past four years, she has served as president of the Po MOC Association for Women and Children named after Mary Immaculate, whose aim is to help women and their children who are at risk of or affected by sexual, physical and psychological violence, victims of trafficking in women, victims of forced prostitution, and their families. For her work, she has received the Totus Award and the Rev. Józef Tischner Award.
Human trafficking is a social phenomenon recorded throughout human history since ancient times. It was once identified with slavery, while today it is mainly associated with criminal activity targeting women forced into prostitution. In recent years, the meaning of the term and the phenomenon itself have expanded considerably and now encompass all activities aimed at exploiting people, in violation of their fundamental rights to self-determination.
The organizers of the meetings are the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas in Bolesławiec and the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre in Bolesławiec.
