On Tuesday, June 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., demonstrations and competitions will be held for children from Bolesławiec schools and preschools.

Children and young people will have the opportunity to attend a lecture on the fortune-telling practices and traditions that, since Slavic times, have accompanied Midsummer Night celebrations on the Polish and Czech sides of the Karkonosze Mountains. There will also be a lecture on the properties and symbolism of precious and semiprecious stones, which for centuries served as amulets protecting against evil forces.

Throughout the day, there will be presentations of wax products and lectures devoted to beekeeping traditions in the region, prepared in cooperation with the District Beekeepers’ Association in Bolesławiec, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

The garden will host the outdoor game “Searching for the Fern Flower” and a competition for the most interesting and original costume related to the Slavic feast of St. John. Children will also compete in wreath-making.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to see several interesting exhibitions. The museum will open the exhibition “The Figure of Karkonosz in the Art and Tradition of the Czech Republic and Lower Silesia,” which will also feature figurines, books and other memorabilia associated with the legendary Mountain Spirit, from the collections of Polish and Czech museums. In addition, visitors will be able to see the exhibition “The Wealth of the Region – Stones and Minerals,” while the garden will also feature the exhibition “Silesian and Czech Beehives.”

Admission to the exhibitions, competitions and demonstrations related to Midsummer Night is free.

These activities are part of the project “Gardens of Living Tradition – Protecting the Common Heritage of the Polish-Czech Borderland,” co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Czech Republic–Republic of Poland 2007–2013 Operational Programme of Cross-Border Cooperation.
