In 1866, the Municipal Zoological Garden was established in Bolesławiec. It was located behind Kościelna Street, next to the city walls. It was founded by the Bolesławiec–Lwówek Society. It contained a terrarium and an aquarium. The animals included crocodiles, snakes, iguanas and parrots.

In 1934, the zoo in Bolesławiec gained Nile geese, peacocks and pheasants. After World War II, the Bolesławiec zoological garden was closed down and, unfortunately, its operations were never resumed. Today, we can admire this period in our city’s history in preserved photographs.
