Flag Day celebrations (2 May) traditionally took place at the flagpole erected in Bolesławiec Market Square. Precisely at 12:00, the solemn ceremony began with Major Szymon Czerwiński submitting a report of readiness for the ceremony to the commander of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, Acting Lieutenant Colonel Tomasz Lisiecki.
After the flag was raised, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman addressed those gathered. The ceremony was enhanced by a performance by the “Bolesławiec” Municipal Brass Band. The event was attended by standard-bearer units from Bolesławiec schools and associations, including the Bolesławiec City Council, the Union of Combatants of the Republic of Poland and Former Political Prisoners, the World Association of Home Army Soldiers, the Union of War Invalids, the Bolesławiec branch of the Siberians Association, NSZZ “Solidarity”, the Polish Red Cross, the Szare Szeregi ZHP Troop, Municipal Gymnasium No. 2, Municipal School Complex No. 3/Municipal Gymnasium No. 3, the Comprehensive and Vocational School Complex, the Second General Secondary School, the Mechanical School Complex, and the Electronic School Complex.
On 3 May, two ceremonies were held to commemorate the Constitution of 3 May. The first was a solemn Mass for the Homeland, held at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Zamkowy Square. The service was attended by an honor company of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment and the “Bolesławiec” Municipal Brass Band, whose bandmaster is Jan Chojnacki.
That afternoon, a concert by folk ensembles entitled “May Picnic with Folklore” took place in the Forum hall. The concert featured the “Bolesławiec” Song and Dance Ensemble and the “Jutrzenka” Municipal Song and Dance Ensemble. The programme included patriotic elements, led by traditional Polish folk dances: the mazur and kujawiak. The youngest members of the “Bolesławiec” Song and Dance Ensemble, who performed a polonaise in beautiful noble costumes, made a particularly lasting impression on the large audience.
In addition to its traditional repertoire, consisting of songs from the Balkan countries, the “Jutrzenka” Municipal Song and Dance Ensemble also presented its own arrangement of “Bałkanica”, a popular hit by the band Piersi.
The instructor of the “Bolesławiec” Song and Dance Ensemble is Agnieszka Podłaszczyk, while the director of the “Jutrzenka” Municipal Song and Dance Ensemble is Edward Krawczewski. The uniqueness of the concert was emphasized by the stage design prepared by Waldemar Cieślak.
