On Tuesday, April 29, the summary of the 5th Bolesławiec Historical Competition “Save from Oblivion – Siberian Exiles” took place at the “Orzeł” Cultural Integration Centre in Bolesławiec. The competition was held on April 12 at Municipal Middle School No. 2 named after Poles Deported to Siberia in Bolesławiec. The award ceremony was preceded by a screening of the film “The Fate of Those Deported to Siberia”.
Teams representing five Bolesławiec primary schools took part in the competition, and the participants demonstrated extensive knowledge and familiarity with history. First place went to the team from Primary School No. 1 (comprising: Karolina Hajdamowicz, Oliwia Rogala and Katarzyna Rozmus). The team’s supervisor is Renata Kruszelnicka.
The team from Primary School No. 4 came second (comprising: Kaja Szylar, Karolina Zdunek and Michaela Piaseczna; coached by Irena Lembryk). Zuzanna Bujak, Magdalena Ganowska and Magdalena Szewc from Primary School No. 5 took third place. The supervisor of the third-place winners is Marzena Bronowicka. The winners received copies of the album “Borderland Episodes” and commemorative certificates.
The main aim of the competition is to popularise knowledge about the history of Poles deported to Siberia, sensitise young people to the evil and harm inflicted on deportees, and preserve the memory of those whose fate became the Golgotha of the East.
The competition organisers were Municipal Middle School No. 2 named after Poles Deported to Siberia, in cooperation with the Society of Lviv and Southeastern Borderlands Enthusiasts and the Bolesławiec Branch of the Siberian Exiles Association.
The competition is held under the patronage of Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman, Papirus Bookshop, and the honorary patronage of the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw.
