On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Poland’s membership in the European Union, an interschool European Union knowledge competition was held on 28 April at the “Orzeł” Cultural Integration Centre. Four-person representatives of Bolesławiec’s four lower secondary schools, selected in internal school qualifying rounds, took part.

The competition consisted of three stages: a multimedia presentation on a selected EU member state; a test of knowledge about the Union; and a multimedia presentation, film, interview or theatrical scene on cooperation between EU member states, illustrated by projects carried out by schools from Bolesławiec.

The jury, comprising Maria Czyżowicz, Anna Gorzkowicz, Katarzyna Dorosz and Mirosław Adamarczuk, awarded first place to the team representing Municipal Gymnasium No. 1: Kamil Biegała, Roman Durda, Gabriel Skuła and Katarzyna Strojek. The group’s supervisor is Joanna Tomaszewska.

Second place went to students from Municipal Gymnasium No. 2 named after Poles Deported to Siberia: Justyna Babiasz, Michał Jóźków, Dagmara Parchimowicz and Agata Rompała; supervisors: Agnieszka Gerwatowska and Beata Orczyk.

Municipal Gymnasium No. 4 came third: Paulina Owerko, Julia Fulczyńska, Agata Dydak and Aleksandra Wagner; coached by Marzena Bronowicka.

Just outside the podium was Municipal Gymnasium No. 3 named after John Paul II, represented by: Michał Kutryba, Ilona Czyżewska, Karolina Domańska and Martyna Waszak; the group’s supervisor is Ewa Kuczyńska.

The competition was held under the honorary patronage of the Regional Representation of the European Commission in Wrocław and the Mayor of Bolesławiec, Piotr Roman. Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre thanks the jurors, teachers and students for helping organise and participating in the competition.
