Traditionally, in April, UKS Tukan Iwiny organized a three-day orienteering competition. This time, the theme of the competition, held across three counties—Lwówek County, Bolesławiec County and Złotoryja County—was Polish volcanoes, hence the name Polskie Wulkanalia.
The first stage took place on April 4 in the forests between Czaple and Bielanka (the Open Lwówek County Orienteering Championships). The second event (April 5) was the Lower Silesian Championships in the Classic Distance. The competition was held in Wilczy Las. The Wulkanalia final, or the “siege of Grodziec,” took place on April 6.
The winners’ award ceremony took place in the courtyard of Grodziec Castle. The awards were presented by Lower Silesian Marshal Cezary Przybylski and castellan Zenon Bernacki.
A total of 383 runners from Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Russia and Latvia took part in the competition. More information is available at www.orientpark.pl.
“For the members and supporters of UKS Tukan Iwiny, this was a particularly important competition, because for the first time we organized it almost entirely on our own,” says Dariusz Pachnik, head of Tukan. “The main burden of the work was taken on by young people aged 16 to 20. We would also like to express our great thanks to the parents of our competitors, who supported the young people’s work.”
