On April 4, 2014, Deputy Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Jerzy Michalak, responsible for road infrastructure, met with the Mayor of Bolesławiec Piotr Roman. The meeting concerned plans to build the eastern bypass of our city.

“The construction of the bypass is divided into three stages,” Deputy Marshal Jerzy Michalak informed. “We are ready to build the section from Kruszyn to the forester’s lodge (the exit towards Lwówek). This section is almost 4 km long. Its cost will be approximately PLN 40 million. Work could begin in 2014 or in the first half of 2015.”

The aim of the investment is to build a new section of voivodeship road with the parameters of a major road. The investment will connect the “Solidarity” roundabout in Kruszyn with the existing route of voivodeship road no. 297 leading to the forester’s lodge on Jeleniogórska Street. Work on the subsequent stages of the Bolesławiec bypass will begin after the ROP is adopted, in the new funding perspective.

An extremely important task is the construction of a pedestrian and cycle path along Kościuszki Street, which forms part of voivodeship road no. 297. “We are currently completing the documentation for construction of the pedestrian and cycle path. Its preparation is financed equally by the city and the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Kościuszki Street will be renovated, illuminated and drained, and a pedestrian and cycle path will be built alongside it,” informs Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman.

It is worth recalling that, under the new coalition arrangement in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Regional Assembly (Civic Platform and Civic Lower Silesia), the Bolesławiec bypass was included in the ROP on the initiative of Civic Lower Silesia. This bypass should divert north–south transit traffic on road 297 away from the city centre.

Cars travelling from Świnoujście, Szczecin, Gorzów and Zielona Góra to Jelenia Góra and the border crossing at Jakuszyce will bypass the city centre. The same applies to vehicles leaving the A4 motorway (Bolesławiec interchange) and the A18 (Golnice interchange). The bypass will also make access easier from the south, from Lwówek Śląski, to plants located in the Bolesławiec subzone of the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone and the Bolesławiec Economic Activity Zone.

The bypass is also environmentally significant—it will reduce so-called low-level exhaust emissions in central Bolesławiec. It should also increase the economic value of land located nearby.

The Marshal also announced that renovation of the road between Bolesławiec and Lwówek Śląski would begin later this year.
