On 3 April 2014, meetings will be held with beneficiaries of the “Be Fair – Internet as a Common Good” project. The meetings will take place in the conference room of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre. The first is scheduled for 15:00, and the second for 16:00. During the meetings, the project’s provisions concerning the computers being provided and Internet delivery will be discussed.
Most families have already received computers as part of the “Be Fair – Internet as a Common Good” project. The project involves 200 families, which receive a computer set with basic software and Internet access, with connection speeds of 6 MB/s. In addition, two people from each family had the opportunity to take part in training in basic computer operation and Internet use. Families were recruited by the Municipal Social Welfare Centre in Bolesławiec from among residents receiving social assistance benefits and people holding certificates confirming a moderate or severe degree of disability.
The primary aim of the “Be Fair – Internet as a Common Good” project is to reduce the digital exclusion occurring in the city. The project aims, among other things, to reduce disparities in access to modern information technologies. Thanks to support provided through the project, Bolesławiec residents experiencing digital exclusion will significantly improve their chances of fuller participation in social and economic life.
The “Be Fair – Internet as a Common Good” project is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Innovative Economy Operational Programme. The total value of the project is 7 384 169 PLN, including 6 953 003 PLN in funding from the Innovative Economy Operational Programme.
It is worth recalling that, as part of the “Be Fair – Internet as a Common Good” project, approximately 15 km of microduct infrastructure was built, containing approximately 15.4 km of fibre-optic cables across Bolesławiec.
