Winter holidays programme at the Museum of Ceramics

  • 18 February at 12:00, highly interesting activities will begin, involving the creation of short comic strips drawn on the basis of poems by Jan Brzechwa. The workshop will be led by Adam Faltyn, co-author of the historical comic book “Bolesławiec Episodes of the Napoleonic Wars”. The planned end time is 14:00. The activities are intended mainly for preschoolers and primary school pupils
  • 19 and 26 February from 11:00 to 15:00, the well-known Bolesławiec photographer Grzegorz Matoryn will lead photography workshops entitled “Bolesławiec’s Historic Buildings in Photography”. He will begin the activities with a short lecture on the difficulties involved in taking photographs in urban spaces and ways of dealing with them. This will be followed by a tour of the city, during which participants will be able to apply the knowledge they have gained by taking photographs in the field. The workshop participants’ work will be discussed after returning to the Museum. These activities are intended for lower- and upper-secondary school students. Participants are asked to bring their own cameras
  • 21 February from 11:00 to 12:00 and from 12:30 to 13:30, the “Carnival Craze” workshops will take place. During the activities, participants will learn a brief history of carnival as well as traditions and customs associated with this period. They will also be able to make colourful masks and interesting headwear themselves, ideal for a fancy-dress party. The workshops are intended mainly for younger children—preschoolers and primary school pupils
  • 25 February from 11:00 to 12:00 and from 12:30 to 13:30, art workshops are planned during which participants will be able to make a house for their pet—a dog or cat. The workshop leader will show how an ordinary cardboard box can be transformed into a comfortable yet attractive bed for domestic animals. The activities are open to everyone, regardless of age

In addition, all visitors, both young people and adults, will have the opportunity to view the highly interesting “Multimedia Encyclopaedia of Bolesławiec Ceramics”. It is a presentation containing a wealth of interesting information about the history of local stoneware. The entries are divided into sections. The “Most Famous Designers” tab contains biographies of famous ceramic artists associated with Bolesławiec throughout history, while the “Great Pot” section brings together all the information about this famous vessel.

The Encyclopaedia contains previously unpublished archival materials devoted to the history of Bolesławiec ceramics, originating from Polish and German libraries, museums and archives, including those in Wrocław, Warsaw, Berlin and Velten. The most interesting are undoubtedly the vessel designs from 1906–1921, created at the Bolesławiec School of Ceramics.

The materials made available in the presentation represent only a small, visually most interesting part of the documentation obtained during the implementation of the “Multimedia Encyclopaedia of Bolesławiec Ceramics” project, co-financed by the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation. The project partner is Schlesisches Museum zu Goerlitz.

Furthermore, the Museum of Ceramics invites visitors to the “Silence of Dialogue” exhibition, presenting works by students and graduates of the Sculpture in Ceramics Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. The exhibition is also open in the building at Kutuzowa Street until the end of March 2014.
