The Polish-German project began in June 2013. As part of it, nine Argentine tango workshop meetings were held. Classes took place at BOK-MCC and CIK Orzeł in two groups: beginner and advanced. The classes were led by experienced instructors who, during the ninth and final meeting, performed their workshop demonstrations to live music.
During the final workshops, Andrzej Piotrów, a member of the Tango Bolesławiec Association, thanked Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, director of BOK-MCC, for her help in implementing the project. Thanks were also given to the German partner, Alexandrer Göpfert – president of the Tango argentino e.V. association from Görlitz, thanks to whom the project could be implemented.
The project coordinator on the Polish side was Dariusz Uściński (from the events organisation department at BOK-MCC). “The final meeting attracted so much interest that the workshop participants had to move to the Długa Gallery to practise together with the instructors,” the coordinator said. “The number of people interested, their commitment and the passion with which they took part in the workshops for ten months prove what a successful and necessary cultural initiative this was.”
All the instructors appeared at the final workshops: Anita and Piotr Kozołubowie, a couple who combine the technical requirements of tango and the flexibility of the milonguero style with elements of the spectacular nuevo style; Katarzyna Press and Ireneusz Michalewicz, teachers and promoters of tango, mentors to many dancers and tango teachers, and owners of the “Tangoki” Tango School; as well as Gaia Pisauro and Leandro Furlan, an outstanding pair of instructors who lead workshops throughout Europe.
The “Tango Argentino. Polish-German Dance Workshops” project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund and by state budget funds, with the support of the Nysa Euroregion.
