In the Australian Open doubles final, our fellow countryman Łukasz Kubot and Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt defeated American Erik Butorac and Raven Klaasen of South Africa. The Bolesławiec-born tennis player thus matched Wojciech Fibak’s 1978 result (his partner at the time was Australian Kim Warwick).
As reported by Sport.wp.pl, after the victory Kubot thanked his family and fans in Polish: “I would like to thank my parents. I would like to greet all my friends who were with me, and of course my fans as well. In life, only moments are beautiful. Greetings to Bolesławiec!”
