The performance “Peter and the Wolf” is one of many events offered by BOK-MCC for the upcoming winter holidays. It is an adaptation of Sergei Prokofiev’s famous symphonic fairy tale about a boy who bravely faces a wolf during his adventures and ultimately emerges victorious.
“Peter and the Wolf” is a fairy tale with educational value. Sergei Prokofiev composed it to familiarise the youngest viewers with symphonic music. The instruments demonstrated to the youngest viewers represent each character in the fairy tale. The performance is interactive and helps young viewers remember the names of the instruments.
The simple story of brave Peter and his friendly companions’ struggle against the evil wolf is told using the 19th-century theatrical technique known as “black theatre”. Puppets and other objects animated by actors dressed in black come to life as if touched by a magic wand. The Russian composer’s music illustrates the impressive stage effects.
