In Poland, an average of approximately 150,000 fires break out every year, resulting in the deaths of more than 500 people, while several thousand more are injured. The largest number—more than 400 people annually (approximately 80% of all fatalities)—die in residential buildings, places where people feel safest. The idea behind this year’s competition, held under the slogan “Be considerate, play nicely, and your home will be safe,” is to interest the younger generation in the broadly understood subject of safety—not only fire safety—to shape appropriate attitudes and raise awareness of the dangers that each of us may encounter.
In accordance with the regulations, works of art previously selected at schools during the school-level stage will be sent to the Headquarters of the State Fire Service. The competition committee will select the finalist works from among them and award distinctions.
This year’s edition does not include district or provincial stages. The competition categories include students from:
- primary schools
- lower-secondary schools
- special schools and special educational centres.
Schools are required to send the selected works to the Headquarters of the State Fire Service no later than 7 May 2014. Detailed information about the competition is available from the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec, tel. 75 644 33 00.
