In the journalism competition “My Europe of Culture,” organized by Wrocław’s Culture and Arts Centre and the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, third place went to Martyna Stasiak, a student of the Janusz Korczak II General Secondary School in Bolesławiec. The jury recognized Martyna for her work “We Are All Made of the Same Clay,” devoted to Gliniada.
“We were tasked with presenting an event or place that has both a local and a European dimension. I decided to present Gliniada, initiated by Bogusław Nowak,” the laureate explains. “It is an important event in our city, one that certainly has a European dimension. People from all over the world come to Bolesławiec to see this parade.”
“Earlier, during our lessons, we analyzed excerpts from the book by Grażyna Hanaf, especially those devoted to Gliniada,” says Elwira Madeiska, a Polish language teacher and the academic supervisor of the work. “This parade is described very interestingly in ‘Joachim.’ As an event that brings together lonely and excluded people; one that makes it suddenly turn out that everyone is made of the same clay. Bartosz Kicki, the competition’s organizer, told us that he immediately liked the idea of Gliniada.”
The award ceremony was attended, among others, by Lower Silesian Deputy Marshal Radosław Mołoń. The winners of the first three places received tablets.
Martyna also used texts by Grażyna Hanaf published on Istotne.pl.
