The idea for the event came from the band Aftershock, which consists of two students of II General Secondary School (guitarist Michał Pietraszko and bassist Rafał Skrzypek) and two students of I LO (guitarist Szymon Różnicki and drummer Maciej Mandżak). “We are a beginner band, and we did not want to organize only our own concert. That is why we thought of a jam session in which both bands and musicians who currently do not play with anyone could take part,” Michał told us in mid-November.
Michał, Rafał, Szymon and Maciej have been playing together for about four months. Interestingly, they were supposed to perform in this lineup only once—at the City Days. The concert went so well that they decided to continue their activities.
As the Aftershock musicians explained, there are few events of this kind in Bolesławiec. The first edition of Second in the Rhythm of Rock, held on November 29, was therefore an excellent opportunity to listen to good music or take part in a jam session.
Three excellent bands from Bolesławiec performed: Tea Set, Sprzedani and Aftershock. The event’s organizers played both Metallica covers and their own songs. Aftershock delivered a highly energetic concert. And although the band does not yet have a vocalist, this did not bother those gathered in the II LO auditorium at all. There was pogo dancing, chanting lyrics (“Master Of Puppets”), and during quieter moments, phone lights (mobile phones took the place of traditional lighters).
The jam session also attracted considerable interest. The audience chose the best musicians, who received 8-gigabyte flash drives funded by the Parents’ Council.
“It was a very good idea,” said Mirosław Sakowski, headmaster of II LO. “Our school supports the ideas of students who specialize in very different fields. There has never been a concert like this at our secondary school before,” he added. Details can be found on Facebook.
