It has long been known that some clergy – not only in Poland – are obsessed with the character Hello Kitty. As it turns out, a pastor from Tomaszów Bolesławiecki is also warning against the cartoon kitten. An information board from the Tomaszów parish appeared on the homepage of the portal Wiocha.pl, accompanied by the telling comment that “the Vatican is afraid of mascots”.

On the board, titled “spiritual threats to children”, we can read, among other things:

Kitty White was born on November 1, 1974, in the London suburbs [pisownia oryginalna – przyp. „ii”]. Is this a coincidence, especially for followers of Christ? [...] And what are the origins of the kitten known throughout the world? Do people know about this? Probably not everyone. According to Spanish sources, the character of the kitten was created by a distraught father whose daughter, suffering from cancer, was dying. To save the child’s life, the father made a pact with a demon, offering, in exchange for saving his daughter’s life, the creation of a symbol that would be worshipped throughout the world, of course – to the glory of hell. The name is as follows: Hell – o – Kitty. As you can see, the kitten has no… Mouth! Why? Because it is easy for a child to close it and force any content into it. The child is unaware. Thus, anyone who buys items bearing the image of this kitten exposes the child to serious danger in the spiritual sphere. They hand the little one over to demons!! [...] This hellish Japanese kitten has clouded the minds of many children around the world and is emptying the wallets of unsuspecting parents.

According to the author of the parish board, Monster High dolls are also a threat to children. The author even expressed regret that “the singer adored by young people” Ewa Farna allowed herself to be tempted and sang a song promoting the Monster High brand.
