Representatives of the Bolesławiec Senior Citizens’ Council at the Mayor of the City’s Office participated on 16–17 September this year in the 2nd “Senior Citizen” Congress, held under the honorary patronage of Professor Irena Lipowicz, the Commissioner for Human Rights.

The congress was held at the Hat Exhibition Hall and in the Planetarium of Silesian Park in Chorzów. The Bolesławiec Council was represented by: Maria Szpak – Council chair, Marianna Doktor – secretary, Eugenia Wolska – member, Bogdan Gajewski – member, and Henryk Lemka – member. The group was accompanied on behalf of the mayor by NGO affairs inspector Beata Dolatowska.

The meetings and discussion panels addressed the following topics: Older people in the contemporary family (a discussion with Irena Wóycicka, secretary of state at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland); The government’s senior policy (a discussion with Radosław Mleczka, secretary of state at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy); The Polish pensioner (a discussion with Zbigniew Derdziuk, president of the Social Insurance Institution); Good practices in Europe (a discussion with MEP Jan Olbrycht and Justyna Chrzanowska, the foreign minister’s representative for proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg); Protection of older people’s rights in the Visegrád Group countries (a discussion with Slovakia’s Ombudsman and representatives of the Czech and Hungarian Ombudsmen’s Offices); Don’t be fooled. Check before you sign (lectures given by employees of the National Bank of Poland and professors from the University of Silesia and the State Higher Vocational School in Oświęcim).
