The high attendance at the “Aware Senior – Safe Senior” meeting, held on October 15 at the Old Theatre in Bolesławiec, showed how important issues related to the safety of older people are. The event, organized by Bolesławiec County, provided an opportunity to discuss the threats seniors may encounter every day and ways to deal with such situations effectively.

The meeting covered, among other things, scammers’ methods, including the popular “grandchild” scams, as well as threats associated with using the internet, fake SMS messages and attempts to obtain personal data fraudulently. Participants also learned ways to improve their own safety and protect themselves against manipulation.

The program also included issues concerning legal and property security. Discussions covered wills, donations and life-tenancy agreements, as well as hazards associated with carbon monoxide and fire. Information was also provided about crisis situations, alarm signals and the principles of responding appropriately in the event of a threat.

The meeting was complemented by topics related to recognizing reliable sources of information and health prevention for seniors.

The broad range of topics discussed made it possible to view the safety of older people from various perspectives – from protecting money and personal data, through safety at home, to taking care of health. The meeting was part of educational activities carried out under the “Aware Senior – Safe Senior” program.
