Priest Józef Hupa, parish priest of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish (Osiedle Kwiatowe), has been associated with our city for 19 years. “The idea behind establishing this café was simple. For years, I watched people meet outside the church after Mass. In summer, there is no problem with that, but winter is more difficult,” the priest recounts. “I thought it would be worthwhile to open a café that would serve as a meeting place.”
The café, located in the church basement, will open on Sundays after every Mass. It can accommodate approximately 80 people, who can have coffee or sample some cake. “On the one hand, this is a continuation of the community-room activities [przy parafii funkcjonuje Świetlica Środowiskowa im. św. Józefa, Opiekuna Rodzin – przyp. „ii”], and on the other, an extension of the Mass,” explains the parish priest.
What is more, a dance club is expected to meet there. Musical gatherings will be organized, featuring blues, gospel and jazz. There will also be a gallery of religious paintings.
“I often call it an agape, a spiritual feast, referring to the times of the first Christians,” notes Father Józef Hupa. “Today, people live in a hurry and have no time for anything. Now, after Mass, they do not have to disperse and go home. They can meet here, in this café, and talk calmly.”
