At the premises of Gimnazjum Samorządowe No. 2 on Bielska Street, construction of a traffic town is under way. It is worth recalling that a traffic town is a publicly accessible area that reflects the most common intersections and road signs.
The investment is being carried out as part of the project entitled “Building Traffic Towns”, included in the List of Individual Projects for the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2007–2013 under Priority VIII – Transport safety and national transport networks, Measure 8.1 – Road traffic safety, of the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2007–2013, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the state budget (without financial participation from Gmina Miejska Bolesławiec).
The traffic town will be equipped with miniature roads, pavements, pedestrian crossings, road signs, as well as lighting and small-scale infrastructure elements. The aim of the investment is to promote proper behaviour in road traffic among children and young people, increase road safety and provide opportunities for professional practical classes that strengthen the education system in the area of road-safety issues, proper training for children and young people, and the administration of examinations for bicycle and moped licences.
Thanks to practical classes enabling participants to practise actual situations that may occur in real road traffic (without the danger associated with conducting classes in real road traffic), a more effective educational outcome can be achieved.
The traffic town is being built by Przedsiębiorstwo Handlowo Usługowo produkcyjne ALE from Lubań. The total cost of the project is PLN 500,000. Construction work will be completed in mid-October.
