Prelate Edward Bober was ordained a priest in 1955 in Wrocław. The first parish of the newly ordained priest was the parish in Syców. He later worked in the parish in Kamienna Góra. From there, he went to Marciszów, where he served as parish priest for 14 years. In mid-1969, he arrived in Bolesławiec. “I was sent to rebuild this former Protestant church, which had been almost 70 percent destroyed by weather conditions and vandals,” recalls Father Edward Bober.

As is well known, the first church building was constructed 250 years ago. In the 1830s, a tower was added. The church was not damaged during the war. Its destruction occurred only afterward. The authorities of the Polish People’s Republic refused to allow the building to be renovated. Such permission was granted only in 1968. The following year, Father Edward Bober began the rebuilding project with great determination.

The jubilee celebrations were also connected with the Prelate’s 75th birthday, which he celebrated in July. Mass, presided over by the Bishop of Legnica, Stefan Cichy, was concelebrated by Bishop Stefan Regmunt, Bishop Tadeusz Rybak, Monsignor Władysław Bochnak, and many priests associated with the parish and with the Prelate.

The jubilarian received congratulations from representatives of various parish groups: children, young people, prayer groups, fellow priests, nuns, and representatives of Bolesławiec schools. Representatives of the local authorities also offered their congratulations.

The celebrations of both anniversaries and the presence of Bishops Stefan Cichy, Stefan Regmunt, and Tadeusz Rybak, as well as Monsignor Władysław Bochnak, were also connected with the canonical visitation of the parish. The bishop ordinary visited the parish on Sunday and Monday.
