This year, the government’s “School Starter Kit” program covers students beginning school education in September:

  • in grades I–III and grade V of primary school and first-level general music school
  • in grade II of upper-secondary school
  • in grade V of second-level general music school and general art school
  • in grade II of art high school
  • in grade II or VIII of general ballet school.

Pursuant to an order by Mayor Piotr Roman, applications for subsidies to purchase textbooks for students at schools located in Bolesławiec must be submitted by September 6, 2013.

For first-grade primary school students and students in the corresponding grade of an art school, income must not exceed PLN 539 net per person in the family (this is the criterion set out in the Family Benefits Act). For students in the other grades covered by the program, income must not exceed PLN 456 net per person in the family (the criterion set out in the Social Assistance Act).

Five percent of students in grades covered by the program who meet none of the above criteria may receive a school starter kit based on a positive decision by the city mayor.

In 2013, the program will also cover students with visual impairments, deaf students, students with mild, moderate or severe intellectual disabilities, and students with multiple disabilities.

Students with disabilities who have a certificate confirming the need for special education are entitled to apply for funding under the “School Starter Kit” program regardless of per-person family income.

In 2013, textbook subsidies will amount to:

  • grades I–III – up to PLN 225
  • grade V of primary school – up to PLN 325
  • grade II of basic vocational school – up to PLN 390
  • grade II of upper-secondary school (general high school, technical school) – up to PLN 445
  • if students with disabilities use textbooks approved by the minister responsible for education and upbringing for special education, the assistance may amount to up to PLN 770 in primary school and up to PLN 607 in lower-secondary school.

Assistance is provided upon an application by the student’s parents (legal guardians, foster parents), as well as by a teacher, social worker or another person (with the consent of the legal representative or foster parents).

The application must be submitted to the school principal of the school the student will attend in the 2013/2014 school year.
