A meeting was held at the Belweder Palace, during which the President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski presented state decorations to the tennis players who represented Poland at the 2013 Wimbledon Tournament. Agnieszka Radwańska was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit for sporting achievements and activities promoting the development and popularization of sport, while the Silver Crosses of Merit were received by Jerzy Janowicz and our fellow townsman Łukasz Kubot.
Let us recall: at the beginning of July, we wrote that Kubot, who comes from our city, defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino at the Grand Slam tournament and—for the first time in his career!—advanced to the quarterfinals, where he faced another Pole, Jerzy Janowicz.
The match between the two Polish tennis players took place on Wednesday, July 3. Jerzy Janowicz proved the better player, defeating his opponent in three sets after an exciting battle—7:5, 6:4, 6:4.
