On 19 March 2026, the Ministry of the Interior and Administration hosted a ceremony presenting the Medals named after Police Sub-Commissioner Andrzej Struj to police officers from across the country who had saved the lives and health of citizens while risking their own lives or health. – We are meeting to pay tribute to those who, in an hour of trial, displayed great strength and fortitude. They showed that serving another person is the most important thing, that another person’s safety is the value that forms part of the ethos and service of a state officer – said Marcin Kierwiński, head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration.

He added:

Today, the Polish Police has more than 102,000 officers who defend the safety, lives, health and property of Poles every day. You are the elite of this great army. You are building the image of the Polish police officer, and I thank you very much for that. It is a great honour to oversee a formation made up of such heroes.

In his speech, Chief Commander of Police Inspector General Marek Boroń thanked the officers for their conduct, courage and determination, which testify to the highest value forming the foundation of the Polish Police:

Every day, police officers make difficult decisions and face unpredictable situations. They are constantly ready to act in defence of the lives and safety of others, and they never know whether they will return to their homes and families. Sub-Commissioner Andrzej Struj fulfilled his oath to the very end. Policewomen and policemen, as Chief Commander of Police, I am proud of you. I look at you and your conduct with the highest esteem. It inspires my deepest respect. Thanks to you, the citizens of our country can feel safe. Congratulations on receiving your decorations, and I wish you perseverance, satisfaction from your duties and success in your personal lives.

By ministry decision, the medal was awarded to 76 male and female Police officers. Among those decorated were three officers from the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters:

  • asp. Marian Momot for actions taken in July 2024 – he suffered serious injuries during an intervention, losing an eye;
  • asp. szt. Grzegorz Jurczak and senior sergeant Michał Klimos, who saved a man’s life on a Bolesławiec viaduct in April 2025.

Next, Secretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration Czesław Mroczek, assisted by Inspector General Marek Boroń, presented the Medals named after Police Sub-Commissioner Andrzej Struj to the police officers attending the ceremony.

(Before the ceremony began, the Minister of the Interior and Administration presented medals to two officers whose identities cannot be disclosed because of the nature of their service).

Gazeta Policyjna sums up: – The conduct of the decorated Police officers embodies the words of the oath spoken by every officer entering the service: “...even at the risk of my life...”.
