The Janusz Korczak II General Secondary School in Bolesławiec has received the Safe School Certificate. “This is a summary of II LO’s many years of work,” says school counsellor Beata Ulatowska, author of the “Safe School” programme, which included, among other things:

  • the lecture “Threats Emerging from Cyberspace”
  • discussions during lessons
  • the Student Council campaign “October: A Month of Fighting Addictions”
  • integration workshops for first-year students
  • a meeting with a psychologist
  • voluntary activities at the Children’s Home in Bolesławiec
  • a meeting with a WOPR lifeguard
  • preventive classes on bullying at school and assertive behaviour
  • a meeting with a municipal police officer, who spoke about criminal liability.

The programme was approved by the Teachers’ Council. Everyone took part in its implementation: teachers, students and their parents alike. The latter, for example, had the opportunity to attend a meeting with an addiction therapist.

The integration workshops for first-year students were also highly praised. “The classes that took part were very satisfied with the results,” notes the II LO counsellor. Another interesting initiative that is also part of the “Safe School” programme is Sweet Wednesdays, during which students sell homemade baked goods; the money raised in this way is allocated to school expenses.

“This certificate proves that II LO is a safe school. It is important information for our future students and their parents,” says Beata Ulatowska. “What is important is that these activities produce results. Surveys show that the overwhelming majority of our students believe that there is a wonderful atmosphere at this school. This is a great achievement for the institution. Students feel safe here, which translates into their well-being and academic performance.”

“I would like to thank Ms Beata. Thanks to her work, we are the first upper-secondary school in Bolesławiec County to receive this certificate,” emphasises Mirosław Sakowski, headmaster of II LO.

Moreover, the II General Secondary School can also boast an Innovative School Certificate. The institution successfully took part in the “Innovative Teaching Methods in Entrepreneurship” project, carried out by the Lublin-based Polish Foundation of Centres Supporting Economic Development “OIC POLAND” in partnership with the University of Economics and Innovation in Lublin. Thanks to their participation in the project, II LO students received interesting educational materials free of charge; other schools have to pay for them.
