The musical “Romek and Julka from Bolesławiec” was created to showcase, with elaborate production, the music and dance studios of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre-International Ceramics Centre. The musical performance was preceded by an exhibition of works by participants in ceramics and visual arts workshops.

– It is a true celebration of ceramics – said at the exhibition Katarzyna Syguła-Wieczorek, presenting her work. – The residents of Bolesławiec mould and sculpt clay; the exhibition shows that this is a passion for many residents.

Katarzyna has been attending Edyta Orlińska’s classes since September. She presented ceramic sculptures at the exhibition. Her son and husband also attend classes at BOK-MCC. – I also came here to see the other works – she said. – The variety of subjects, ideas and techniques is captivating. It is a very diverse exhibition. Interesting – she added.

The instructors present at the exhibition opening: Edyta Orlińska, Mateusz Grobelny and Magdalena Konieczna praised their students, admired their work and, above all, praised their creativity and ingenuity. – The congratulations are mainly due to the authors – said Mateusz Grobelny. – It is their big day.

After the exhibition opening, the first musical organised at BOK-MCC was staged at the Forum. The subject of the musical performance was very simple, as it served to present the skills of all participants in the dance and music studios. It was the story of two children from Bolesławiec, Romek and Julka, who met at classes at the municipal cultural centre.

At first, the children danced with the “Bolesławiec” Song and Dance Ensemble (instructor Agnieszka Podłaszczyk), then new hip-hop trends captivated them. Growing up to a dance rhythm, they fell in love, but were separated by… a mission in Afghanistan, to which Romek left. Despite the tragic Shakespearean original, Romek and Julka from Bolesławiec managed to meet again after years of separation and join together in a duet.

– This is a celebration of our students – said Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, director of BOK-MCC and the musical’s originator. – We intend to present the skills of participants in the classes organised here in this special way every year.

The audience reacted enthusiastically to the performances by the talented workshop participants. The following groups appeared on stage: Katarzyna Tomczyk-Jakubowska (energetic dance and excellent choreography), Magdalena Zientara (elegant flamenco dance), Alicja Kowal (captivating choreography with colourful fans), Paweł Klimek and Kamil Nakonieczny (brilliantly polished breakdance).

Singers also performed: Joanna Smętek with the song “Land of Love” by the group Poeticon, under the supervision of Anna Frąckiewicz; from Barbara Lendzian’s studio, Ada Knapik performed and gave an excellent interpretation of the song “The Lovers”.

Song studio instructor Agata Pińczuk-Burdzy accompanied Dorota Straburzyńska and Ewelina Szczęsna in a vocalise performed at the beginning of the musical. The song studio was also represented by the duets Anna Pieszko and Artur Chruścicki, as well as Magdalena Opała and Dawid Meier. The Cantate Deo choir also performed under the direction of Aleksander Samostrokov. The entire event was filmed by students of Michał Szwed’s film studio. The narrators of the performance were Aleksandra Bojanowska, Arkadiusz Emilian and Paweł Klimek. Consultations: Anna Frąckiewicz.
