This year’s edition of the “Masonry Success” competition, organized by Powiat Bolesławiecki and the Guild of Various Crafts and Small Entrepreneurship, took place on April 23 at the Construction School Complex in Bolesławiec. Three-person teams from across Lower Silesia took part in the competition.

Each team consisted of two bricklayers and a finishing-works technician. “This competition made it possible to determine which teams had more experience with specific construction technologies,” says Jacek Jurkiewicz, director of the “construction school.” “The judging panel will take into account, among other things, the quality of execution, the aesthetics of the work and whether occupational health and safety rules were observed.”

“This is the third competition of this kind,” says Dariusz Kwaśniewski, a member of the Board of Powiat Bolesławiecki. “Two years ago we organized a competition for the best hairdresser, last year for the best gastronomy professional, and this year we decided to promote construction professions.”

The “Masonry Success” competition is aimed at vocational-school students. “I have always wanted strong vocational schools and technical schools to operate in our county, so that young people would have a trade in hand,” Kwaśniewski emphasizes. “A graduate of management and marketing will earn three times less than the best bricklayer selected in this competition. We are not doing this for show or for PR. Our county has an excellent network of vocational schools, which is why we encourage students to study at our vocational and technical schools.”
