At the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Cultural Centre, there are seven different dance studios attended by more than 400 people. The article “BOK-MCC Studios – Inspired by Bolesławiec Residents, Part 1” discussed the “Bolesławiec” Song and Dance Ensemble and the Canon Hip-Hop Dance Ensemble. In this article, we present the remaining studios.
Oriental Dance
At the Oriental Dance School run by Alicja Kowal , women learn belly dancing every Thursday. The classes are open to all women, regardless of age or figure. Belly dancing helps shape and strengthen the muscles of the calves, thighs, abdomen, hips and buttocks; the back and arm muscles also work. After dancing, the whole body is relaxed and oxygenated. It is also an excellent way to slim the waist.
There is no better method than belly dancing for relaxation and soothing frayed nerves. The sensual movements performed in this dance allow people to overcome their complexes and grow to like their bodies. The confidence in movement gained during the exercises also increases self-confidence. The attractive dancers from the BOK-MCC oriental dance studio can be admired at all major city celebrations, when they present their skills on stage.
Fiery Flamenco
At the classes led by Magdalena Zientara (a teacher with many years of experience who has been dancing for seven years), participants dance highly rhythmic flamenco, a dance from Andalusia.
These classes focus on musicality and a sense of rhythm. At the “Carmen” Flamenco Dance School, women and men can discover their strength. In addition to its aesthetic qualities, learning flamenco helps improve motor coordination and maintain correct posture.
What is the strength of flamenco? It lies in the original melodies and rhythms, in the expressive way flamenco singers use their voices, in the chords of the accompanying guitar, in the enormous emotional charge of this music, and in the dance: impulsive, yet also full of tension.
Instructor Magdalena Zientara leads her flamenco classes at the BOK-MCC dance studio on Tuesdays.
Cafe Tango and Tango Argentino
For those wishing to learn dances connected with Latin American culture, BOK-MCC offers a tango workshop programme. Classes are held in two groups. Cafe Tango is led by Tomasz Weigt every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Tango Bolesławiec Association invites participants on Tuesdays and Fridays to classes led by Małgorzata and Andrzej Piotrów.
The Tango Bolesławiec Association supported an EU project submitted by BOK-MCC to the Nysa Euroregion. Thanks to this project, Polish-German Argentine tango workshops will be held at the BOK-MCC dance studios.
The international classes will be conducted under the guidance of experienced instructors from May 2013 to February 2014. The project will conclude with a final event featuring a champion couple from Argentina, accompanied by a band playing Latin American music.
“Tango Argentino” involves eight weekend workshop sessions and a final event. Anyone interested in taking part in the project can contact Małgorzata Piotrów (Tango Bolesławiec Association, every Tuesday and Friday at 20:15). Places are limited.
Breakdance
Anyone who wants to learn about breakdance, see how much effort it takes to reign on the dance floor, and understand how much time must be devoted to becoming a truly accomplished dancer can attend classes led by Paweł Klimek and Kamil Nakonieczny. Classes take place in the afternoons on Mondays and Thursdays.
The instructors and dancers from the BOK-MCC breakdance studio have achieved dance successes. In 2012, two dancers took part in the Fokus Festival in Görlitz. The dancers Oskar Ciochoń and Sebastian Chojniarz competed against approximately 10 participants. Oskar Ciochoń took second place.
The nine-year-old resident of Bolesławiec competed in the open category, where he impressed both the judges and the audience and earned the sincere respect of his competitors. “It is worth noting that there were no age divisions in this category,” says Kamil Nakonieczny. “Oskar competed against dancers who were not only older but also more experienced than him. Sebastian, who is several years older than Oskar, also did well,” Nakonieczny added.
