Maciej Szewczyk, a BKS Bolesławiec academy graduate who currently plays for Alemannia Aachen (Germany), received a call-up to the squad for the friendly two-match series between Poland and Georgia following a successful training consultation with the Poland U19 national team, held at the Cetniewo Olympic Preparation Centre at the beginning of March. The two matches will be played from 18 to 25 March. Following the consultation, Poland coach Marcin Sasal spoke about Maciej to Przegląd Sportowy: “He is the real discovery of the camp. A revelation. I don’t know why he wasn’t called up earlier. If he maintains his good form, we have the left-back position covered.”
Maciej Szewczyk is the son of Zbigniew Szewczyk, a former footballer who played, among others, for Zagłębie Lubin and Tennis Borussia Berlin. He began his football journey at BKS Bolesławiec in 2000–2008, then moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern, where he spent two years in the youth teams. He currently plays for Alemannia Aachen, for which he has so far made 38 appearances in the Junior Bundesliga and also made his first-team debut in a third-division match against SpVgg Unterhaching.
Maciej Szewczyk is another BKS Bolesławiec academy graduate to be called up to the Poland national team. At the beginning of March, we wrote about Eryk Sobków, who received a call-up to the U16 national team.
