The accident occurred on Friday (22 February) at approximately 10:30 p.m. on the A4 motorway. Near Nowa Wieś (at kilometre 31), an Audi A4 passenger car skidded, hit a barrier and blocked the left lane of the motorway. A grit spreader stopped in the left lane at the scene. When the grit spreader driver got out of the vehicle and was helping the Audi driver, a minibus collided with the grit spreader. A truck with Slovak registration plates was travelling behind it. To avoid hitting the minibus, grit spreader and Audi, the truck driver began braking and drove into a ditch.
As a result of the collision between the minibus and the grit spreader, a 25-year-old VW passenger, a resident of Małopolska, died at the scene. Two other people from the minibus were injured and taken to hospital. The minibus driver, a 31-year-old resident of Małopolska, was sober. We learned unofficially that the fatality was his brother.
Road conditions are extremely hazardous. It is very slippery. Together with the police, we appeal to drivers to adjust their speed to the conditions on the road.
