One of 16 traffic-town complexes in the country will be built in our city. The facility will be located on the grounds of Gimnazjum Samorządowe No. 2 on Bielska Street. Construction will begin and end this year.
A traffic town is a publicly accessible area consisting of streets, intersections, roundabouts and crossings (e.g. tram crossings), where the most common types of intersections, road signs and other features will be recreated. Children and young people will be able to learn safe behavior on the road there, as well as take examinations for bicycle and moped licences.
The Ministry of the Interior and Administration initiated the construction of traffic towns. The ministry announced a nationwide competition, as a result of which the provinces were to select one city each where a traffic town would be built. PLN 10 million was allocated for the “Building Traffic Towns” project, of which PLN 8.5 million comes from European Union funds.
MSWiA justifies its initiative by pointing out that the number of road accidents in Poland, particularly those involving two-wheeled vehicles, remains very high. The traffic towns are intended to help educate young people and develop proper habits in them.
A ten-member committee, including representatives of provincial police and fire service headquarters, the Wrocław Branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, the Border Guard and the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office, decided to award Bolesławiec PLN 580,000 for the implementation of the project.
The project is financed from the state budget and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund as part of individual project no. 8.1-11, under Priority VIII – Transport Safety and National Transport Networks, Measure 8.1 – Road Safety, of the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme 2007–2013.
