Sixteen participants—eight Poles and eight Germans—arrived on Sunday at the Youth Meeting House in Krzyżowa. The joint educational project is divided into two parts. The stay in Poland will last until 15 July. For the following five days, the project participants will stay in Germany.
During the meetings, the young people discuss relations between Poles and Germans. Among other topics, they have already discussed the Yalta Conference, which divided Europe for many years. They also studied family trees, making it possible to trace the migration of 16 families. In addition, the young people visited places important to their shared history. One of them is the “House on the Hill” in Krzyżowa, where Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki and Chancellor Helmut Kohl decided to establish a foundation dedicated to reconciliation. Another important place visited by the project participants was the Gross Roosen camp. The second part of the educational project will begin on 16 July. For five days, the Polish-German group will move to Germany.
The educational project “A Shared Past – A Shared Future” is being carried out jointly by the Department of Education, Culture, Physical Culture and Sport of the Bolesławiec County Office and the District Youth Office of the Siegburg County Office.
