About Arek Kukawski from Milików, we have written in our pages many times. The boy was born without hands and feet. Despite his disability, he plays football and, without anyone’s help, writes and operates a computer. He is currently a student at the Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych in Bolesławiec.

“We decided that Arek could use something more—not only a fish, but also a fishing rod,” says Marek Kornosz, a ZSM teacher. Thanks to the efforts of the school counsellor, the institution’s management and teachers, a sponsor was found (the sponsor wishes to remain anonymous). On Thursday, 20 December, Arek received computer equipment worth several thousand złoty (including a notebook, monitor and 3D manipulator), together with professional software. “With this equipment, Arek will be able to learn to use the Inventor program at home and, in the future, work with it as a mechatronics technician or engineer,” states Adam Maksymczyk, head of the Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych.

“We believe that Arek will manage in such a profession. Physical strength is not required here; what matters is intellectual input,” Marek Kornosz emphasizes. “We hope that thanks to this equipment, our student will become even more interested in technology,” he adds.

“I am very happy and would like to sincerely thank you for this Christmas gift,” a moved Arek said. “After finishing my studies at ZSM, I plan to attend a technical university and then work with the Inventor program.”

That day, all students of the Mechatronics Technical School took part in a presentation entitled “Practical Applications of Autodesk Inventor,” during which Tomasz Jarmuszczak from PCC Polska (a distributor of engineering software) spoke about the possibility for students to use Autodesk software free of charge and legally. A competition was also announced for creating a 3D model using the presented software.
