The bishop arriving in Bolesławiec was welcomed with bread and salt. He was also handed the key to the church, which was intended symbolically to lead the faithful into the stage of the church’s spiritual construction.

The parishioners received the building permit for the church in January 1981. In less than four months, local residents built a makeshift chapel and two catechetical rooms. Father Józef Gołębiowski, the current parish priest, arrived at the parish in June 1982. More than a year later, Monsignor Stanisław Turkowski blessed the foundation stone for the construction of the church. In November 1991, Cardinal Henryk Gulbinowicz blessed the new church. On Thursday (30 June 2005), Legnica Bishop Stefan Cichy consecrated it. The altar was also blessed.

The parish of Christ the King was established from part of the parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Several dozen people worked voluntarily every day on the construction of the church.

Consecration, or blessing

In the past, the final blessing of a church was called consecration. Today, according to the liturgical regulations, it is called a blessing. In Poland, however, a practical distinction is made: when, after a church has been built, the faithful enter it, this is known as the first blessing, while the second, proper blessing is often called consecration. During the solemn liturgy, the altar and the walls of the church are blessed, incensed and anointed with oil, symbolizing that the building is intended exclusively for divine worship.
