The competition was organized to mark the World Year of Physics. The teachers’ task was to write a lesson plan concerning Einstein’s theory of relativity. In the first stage, the competition committee evaluated the lesson plan written by Joanna Misiura and a computer presentation on speed and time in the special theory of relativity. The lesson plan was well received, and Joanna Misiura, together with nine other teachers from across Poland, qualified for the second stage.
To work on the new final lesson plan, the teacher invited students and graduates interested in physics. A group of students from I LO took part in a lesson held at the Lower Silesian Teacher Training Center in Jelenia Góra. This time, the lesson plan concerned the energy of nuclear transformations. During preparations for the second stage, other teachers also joined Joanna Misiura in working on the lesson plan: Irena Bazan, Dorota Chrzanowska and Sławomir Zimniak, all also from I LO.
The final lesson plan included the use of an interactive whiteboard, a projector and a computer. Together with nine other projects, it was presented to the competition committee in Warsaw at the beginning of June. The evaluation criteria included not only the substantive and educational aspects of the lesson plan, but also the use of the region’s educational opportunities and the teacher’s ability to cooperate within the school and extracurricular environments. The competition committee decided that Joanna Misiura had prepared the best lesson plan. The prizes—an interactive whiteboard (a device resembling a large board that works with a computer and multimedia projector, serving as a large monitor that responds to the touch of a special pen) and a projector—will be presented during the ceremonial Congress of Polish Physicists in Warsaw in September this year.
The competition was organized by Wydawnictwa Szkolne i Pedagogiczne and the Polish Physical Society.
