The Mayor of Bolesławiec Piotr Roman took part in a conference held during the 5th edition of the nationwide “Grunt na medal 2012” competition. The competition has been organized since 2005 by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency in cooperation with provincial marshals and Regional Investor Service Centres. For the competition’s winners, victory means promotion of the investment site and a greater chance of attracting foreign investment to the municipality. “Of the competition’s 64 winners to date, 30 have found a business partner,” says PAIiIZ Vice-President Bożena Czaja. Bolesławiec won the first edition of the competition and joined the group of cities that attracted new investors.
The Mayor of Bolesławiec was invited to participate in the conference to share his experience in preparing the city to attract foreign investors. Mayor Piotr Roman presented the factors determining the effective acquisition of investment, highlighted the skilful use of the city’s geographic location, presented the way the city is managed, emphasized the importance of raising living standards in the city and the development of urban infrastructure.
“We are prepared even for the most demanding investor,” says Piotr Roman. “We offer not only well-prepared investment sites, but also interesting opportunities for spending leisure time. Today, an investor does not ask only about plots of land, because everyone has those. An investor wants to know what opportunities there are for spending leisure time and whether employees will have somewhere to live.”
Good site preparation and an investment-friendly climate were among the reasons why the SRG Global plant, part of the Guardian group, was located in Bolesławiec. “Three years after the investment, we are certain that we would make the same decision again. We chose Bolesławiec because of its ideal location for us. However, the most important factor was the support from the city, which helped us at every stage,” said Enrique Martinez, director of the SRG Global plant in Bolesławiec, during the conference.
It is worth noting that competition among municipalities seeking to attract investors by offering sites for future investments and well-prepared locations is enormous. In the competition’s first four editions, 846 municipalities took part, presenting a total of 1,323 investment offers. The latest edition of the competition received 197 new location offers for investors.
