On Friday, October 12, students of the Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych, accompanied by Alina Kordasiewicz and Izabela Pawłowska, went on a trip to the Wrocław University of Science and Technology branch in Cieplice–Jelenia Góra.
During the visit, the students of the Bolesławiec “mechanic” school took part in the “Secrets of the Periodic Table of Elements” demonstration, during which, among other things, they showed how carbon dioxide is produced. However, the audience was most interested in the presentation demonstrating how beer can be obtained from black tea.
ZSM students also attended a very interesting lecture prepared by Dr. hab. Piotr Klamut. The leitmotif of the lecture was materials physics, but it skillfully wove together topics including ecology, the future of humanity and its demand for energy production, as well as nanotechnology and how it could help obtain enormous amounts of electricity in an environmentally friendly way.
This was another visit by students of the Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych in Bolesławiec to a higher-education institution during the current school year. On September 18, third-year students of the Mechatronics Technical School took part in classes at Opole University of Technology, organized as part of the “Modernization of Vocational Education in Lower Silesia II” project. There, they attended two lectures: “Artificial Intelligence” (on using self-learning algorithms to control vehicles) and “Brain–Computer Communication” (devoted to the possibilities of controlling technical devices with brain waves, for example, enabling a person with a disability to operate a wheelchair).
Participation in lectures and classes at higher-education institutions gives young people from the Bolesławiec “mechanic” school an opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technologies and discover new areas of science. These may inspire them to develop their interests further during their studies and, in the longer term, help them find interesting work.
