Employment at Bader will fall from 1,800 to 1,300 over the next five months. The company is reducing employment because orders from car manufacturers have declined.
“At the turn of 2009 and 2010, we employed 900 people; today, around 1,800. That is a twofold increase in three years. Business was booming and there was demand, so we hired employees. Unfortunately, car sales have fallen by as much as 30%, and we have to reduce employment accordingly,” explains Grzegorz Menet, general director of Bader Polska.
The director explains that reports about closing the plant and moving production to Ukraine are untrue. It is, after all, impossible to move the entire machine park and wastewater treatment plant. The company has invested considerably in Bolesławiec and will certainly not disappear.
“We are sorry that another group of people will be laid off,” says Ewa Hryciów, director of the District Labour Office in Bolesławiec. “But Guardian is continuing to grow, so we hope that many former Bader employees will find work there.”
The head of the District Labour Office emphasizes that Bader has taken steps to lay off as few people as possible. “The layoffs will be spread out over time [do końca marca – przyp. „ii”], and some employees have been offered jobs in other positions. It is also possible that some people from the group slated for dismissal will continue working part-time, at 1/2 or 3/4 time,” Hryciów lists. “We also hope that the number of people who are to lose their jobs will decrease further.”
To ensure that those laid off by Bader do not have to queue, employees of the District Labour Office will register unemployed people at the plant on October 24.
