A meeting for teachers was held at Forum cinema, combined with a preview screening of the film “What Is It Like?”. All this took place as part of the “School Film Library: New Horizons of Film Education” project, which is being implemented in 30 Polish cities, including Bolesławiec.

The films shown as part of NHEF are carefully selected and matched to the age group. The programme consists of nine monthly screenings. Before the screenings, students listen to a talk, and after the film they can take part in a discussion. What is more, their supervisors receive materials about the film and lesson plans.

“At present, more than 500 students have signed up for the project. Registration is open until the end of September, so those interested can still join it,” says Iwona Bojko, deputy director for promotion and artist management.

The teachers who attended the screening were mostly educators already involved with New Horizons of Film Education. As they point out, nowadays learning through film meets the expectations of young people, for whom books alone are not enough.

New Horizons of Film Education makes it possible to cover various elements of the core curriculum. It has received the patronage of the Minister of National Education, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, as well as recommendations from several regional education superintendents. And—most importantly—in May this year it won the Polish Film Institute Award in the “Education of Young Viewers” category. NHEF is also supported by acclaimed directors and actors: Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Zanussi and Jerzy Stuhr.
