The possible abolition of some services and changes to the timetable were discussed at a meeting attended by representatives of trade unions, PKP management, and the authorities of Lwówek Śląski, Jelenia Góra, Bolesławiec, Zgorzelec and Lubań. The talks took place in Bolesławiec Town Hall.
"It is easy to say that the trains are not coordinated, but you have done nothing about this matter. To this day, no one has submitted any application," Andrzej Piech of PKP Przewozy Regionalne accused the local-government authorities during the meeting.
It turns out that the local authorities did indeed fail to submit applications. They did not do so because they were unaware that work on the timetable was under way. They waited for the Voivodeship Marshal to deal with the matter, but he missed the opportunity. "The Marshal promised that there would be consultations concerning the timetable, but he did not let us know," explains Piotr Roman, president of Bolesławiec. Because of the assembly's tardiness, the current timetable will remain in force this year and next year as well.
PKP representatives assure that no final decision has been made to suspend some connections from 1 September. "Nothing has been decided yet. Everything depends on the agreement with the voivodeship authorities," explains Andrzej Piech.
The meeting also addressed the abolition at ticket offices of "service 90," that is, the Central System for Reserving Seats and Selling Domestic and International Tickets. This is related to the obligation to install fiscal modules at ticket offices, which PKP simply cannot afford. Therefore, this sales system should be switched off on 1 January 2005. The only hope is for the finance minister to postpone the deadline for introducing the modules.
