The Rehabilitation Center in Iwiny has gained a new wing, which will house spacious classrooms, modern laboratories, a professional library, comfortable bathrooms with showers, and facilities for a laundry and drying room. This is the very place that has restored balance, self-confidence, and a sense of purpose in life to many young people. They feel at home here, perhaps even better than at home.
This is largely thanks to director Małgorzata Kowalska, the educators, and the staff. This year, Powiat Bolesławiecki decided to expand the much-needed activities of the Rehabilitation Center in Iwiny. The young residents now have access to a Youth Educational Center, together with a Special Lower Secondary School. The Youth Educational Center is intended for children and young people who are socially maladjusted.
The Youth Sociotherapy Center and Special Lower Secondary School No. 2 help young people facing unusual and difficult problems. The center’s residents are girls and boys with behavioral disorders, referred to the facility by decisions of the Family Court, the Psychological and Pedagogical Counseling Center, or at their parents’ request. “Our goal is to provide them with specialist assistance in fulfilling their school obligations, acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to participate independently in family and social life, and developing intellectually, emotionally, and physically in accordance with their needs and abilities. Put simply, we want to help them find their way in life and assist them in planning their future educational and professional careers,” emphasizes Małgorzata Kowalska.
The new face of the Rehabilitation Center in Iwiny is another county investment costing just under one million złoty. “For a county budget, this is a considerable sum, but we had no doubt that we were spending it on a worthy cause,” says starosta Cezary Przybylski. “I hope that this new chapter in the school’s life will support young people who particularly need this help. In conclusion, while others close schools, we build new ones.”
