In January, nurses from the hospital in Lubań occupied the district office for a week, demanding payment of overdue wages. During that time, the hospital management dismissed more than one hundred employees. They all appealed to the labor court in Lubań, and the court reinstated them.

The Lubań district governor appealed the judgment to the court in Jelenia Góra, but the appeal was rejected on formal grounds. The district office then lodged an appeal with the Supreme Court.

“For us, this means that we will have to wait again. Without a final judgment, we remain in limbo,” Gutek says. In her opinion, if the documents reach Jelenia Góra quickly, the case may be heard as early as August.

The nurses from Lubań also occupied the meeting room of the Lubań District Office in April and May. They demanded the reinstatement of dismissed hospital employees or the payment of severance pay and compensation. After two months, the women left the building after the district governor asked the police to intervene. After leaving, they were asked to show their identity documents and released to go home. One of the nurses fainted and was taken to hospital.
